Ohh I know the story is a repeat, the myth is a repeat, but still I will watch it why?

It brings back the Green Mythology back in front of my eyes. The Greek Gods, Devils, Monsters, Antiques, Places. If you are a lover of Greek mythology there is a lot of visual treat as well as things to learn. Starting from the early pottery to the Giant Monsters.

You have the pegasus, the medusa, Athena, Lord Zeus and much more.

I am not an expertise in Greece archaeology, but I play “Hercules – the game”. Most of the story line is outlined in the game. The movie is no less than it.

Watch it and have fun.

I did want to see this movie because it did seem like a few of my favorites, like Event Horizon, Triangle and few other outer space zombie movies. But after watching it, I did feel it was more like Decent, Avatar… and after reading a few reviews it was also like Eden Log.

In the end eventual ly I liked the movie, because it had a sci-fi horrific reason for people mutating into self hunting zombies. A different location, a different reason to kill and a different motive of the movie made me wanting to watch it.
I did miss the first few scenes. It was supposed to be the time that was meant to be spent with my daughter, but I bunked a few hours of office, cheated her with some toys and was watching the movie. Ben Foster and Jon Foster have a memory loss and are not sure what happened to the entire crew or the ship. But Corporal Bower( Ben) assumes that he is awakened automatically by the on board computer to fix the dying central reactor. Without which the ship is lost.

With Payton (Jon) guiding him via radio he explores the space craft. He hears strange sounds and encounters savage humanoid fast moving creatures. After escaping from one such creature he meets other survivors Nadia and Manh who aids to the location of the reactor.
But at first Nadia is very reluctant about it and quotes “No one has ever returned from that place, because the creature’s main dwelling place is underneath the reactor”. But Bower insists on continuing his mission from saving the ship to lose all its energy.
They confront a creature and huge gruesome fighting sequence launches between the three and the strong creature that is killed at the end of the fight. Eventually they escape and reach a chamber where they meet another survivor who is keen on not having direct contact to the other three survivors suspecting them as mutating creatures. He explains everything about what happened, from whatever he saw and how the residents of the ship Elysium have now turned deadly and hunt their own kind.
He briefs the story has “one of the three bridge crew members went berserk. Killing his crewmates, he awakened most of the remaining crew to torture and manipulates them. Those who did not participate with the flight member’s orders were banished to the hold of the ship, forced to scavenge for survival.”

At the end of the story as animatedly narrated by Leland, the three survivors find themselves tied up side down. After regaining consciousness they realize that they were tricked and gassed by Leland to become his meal. But Bower persuades Leland that all of us could only survive if he can fix the central reactor, or there is no point in Leland killing the only man who could possibly save the ship. Leland is convinced and the four proceed to the reactor.
They do encounter several creatures en route but escape each time and reach the central reactor. The following scenes are very dramatic as Bower tries to reach the reactor he falls amidst the dwelling place of mutants. He disguises himself and crawl among the half sleeping mutants to climb the reactor.
On the other end, Payton finds out that the surviving crewmate is Corporal Gallo. He meets Payton as a mutant victim at the radio transmission room and torments him psychologically in making him believe the pandorum and it is important for survival to scavenge other surviving people onboard. Payton manages most of the time by keeping him conscious and not to be taken over by the mind of Corporal Gallo, but at the end eventually loses himself to Gallo by injecting himself with a powerful shot that seems to be like a fight between corporal Gallo and Payton. But in truth Payton is corporal Gallo who has lost all his memory about his crimes during the hyper sleep.
Leland first reaches the radio transmission room only to be killed by Payton. Bower and Nadia confront Payton, where Payton concedes his true identity. Payton then retracts an inner Bunker to reveal a deep sea environment. Bower and Nadia realize that they have already crash landed in Tanis and is now at the bottom of the ocean.
Bower attacks Payton and breaks a window which cause
s a hull breach that floods the ship. Bower and Nadia escape to the ocean’s surface in a hypersleep pod. The damage to the ship triggers an emergency evacuation, ejecting 1211 other hibernating, healthy colonists onto the surface of a beautiful, sunlit alien world. And we can presume the other surviving mutants and Payton are killed along with the ship.

Finally I am settled in finding out my favorite movie genre. Its romantic comedy!. Its a must watch. Hey it has some strong adult language so its 18+ The script is the complete background to the movie, next is Gerald Butler and Katherine Heigl, both have done good justice to the movie.

And the hunky rough look of Gerald Butler also helps a lot.

Some of my favorite dialogues and scenes from the movie:

This dialogue is when Mike teaches Abby her first lesson on how to flirt. Before he could finish the lesson, Colin turns up and Abby all dressed to flirt in her new cocktail dress. But Abby is still not ready to face Colin

Colin: You look great!
Abby Richter: Oh, just doing the dishes.

This is the climax, the last scene, I really loved the ending, yeah a great happy fairy tale ending . Mike and Abby have a good time in LA dancing and partying. That night when each of them realizes the love they have for each other and are ready to confess. But Colin turns up surprisingly and Mike leaves without a note next day without realizing that Abby has turned down Colin confessing that she couldn’t be herself for even a second when she is with Colin. All these days she was pretending to be Mike’s version of Abby and not Abby version of Abby.

Mike Chadway: [sarcastically] I know! Why don’t we spend the telling me how much *fun* you and Colin had having sex in Los Angeles?
Abby Richter: I broke up with Colin in Los Angeles, you jackass!
Mike Chadway: What?
Abby Richter: Oh, that’s got your attention. Well if you think we’re going to finish what we started in Los Angeles you are out of your mind. You lost your chance.
Mike Chadway: Who are you kidding. I never had a chance with you.
Abby Richter: That’s right. I had a temporary lapse in judgment when I thought you were more than you are, but you aren’t.
Mike Chadway: Oh, yeah? What’s that supposed to mean?
Abby Richter: [mockingly] I’m Mike Chadway. I like girls in Jello. I like to fuck like a monkey. Don’t fall in love. It’s scary.
Mike Chadway: Yeah, it is scary. It’s terrifying. Especially when I’m in love with a psycho like you.
Abby Richter: I am not a psycho!
Mike Chadway: I just told you that I love you and all you heard was “psycho.” You’re the definition of neurotic.
Abby Richter: No! The definition of neurotic is a person who suffers from anxiety, obsessive thoughts, compulsive acts, and physical ailments without any objective evidence…
Mike Chadway: Shut up! Yet again I told you that I’m in love with you and you’re standing there giving me a vocabulary lesson.

He up and quit the show, without so much as a word. You think you know what men are going to do. You think you know what men want to do, but when it comes right down to that moment where they need to step up and, I don’t know, make a move – they chicken out.
Mike: Oh! I am all over this.
Abby Richter: The big strong brave men, that we’ve all been reading about in novels and watching in movies since we’ve been nine years old, – -that’s a fallacy. They don’t exist. Men are not strong. Men are not brave. Men, are afraid. Even if they have a moment in a hotel elevator and it’s totally romantic and full of potential, men are incapable of copping to it because, why? Men are weak.
Mike: Let me tell you something about women. Women would have us believe that they are the victims; That we break their hearts for sport. That’s crap. They say they want romance, they say they want true love, but all they want is a check list. Is he perfect? Is he handsome? Is he a doctor? For you men who fit the criteria, don’t kid yourselves. Cuz they’re not sleeping with you, they’re sleeping with a carefully calculated set of venal choices. Money over substance, looks over soul, polished over principles. No gesture, no matter how real or romantic will ever compensate for a really impressive list of credentials.
Abby Richter: This coming from a man who’s never made a gesture other than this one.

Read the plot of the movie which said actually nothing “Anna Rydell returns home to her sister (and best friend) Alex after a stint in a mental hospital, though her recovery is jeopardized thanks to her cruel stepmother, aloof father, and the presence of a ghost in their home.” but simply that, just the words Ghost and cruel stepmother prepared me to watch the movie.

Losing her sick mother in a fire accident has lead Anna’s sanity to a psychotic break. Anna’s nurse shares the home with her father after her mother’s death, which she obviously didn’t like. If I would have noticed (no one else ever sees Alex, or talks to her except Anna). This plot is revealed at the end of the movie that Alex her sister has emerged throughout the movie has just an apparition / hallucination from Anna’s head.

She keeps telling in the movie “I saw mother. She was trying to warn me” – to her sister Alex.  When Anna finds her mother’s belongings like the bell that was tied to her hand when she was sick. Alex yells at Anna to throw it away because the nurse bought it from some pet shop and had tied it around her mother’s hands. And another belonging the chalk board that was hung around the kitchen where Anna’s mother used to leave them messages, is also thrown in to the garage by her step mom. She strongly believes that her step mom has caused the fire and has eventually killed her mother to stay with her father.  To bring evidence to the beliefs the two sisters tries to unwind the secrets behind.

She first meets Matt, while he delivers the groceries and supplies and confronts Anna that he knew exactly what happened at the night of the fire. Because he was following Anna back home after a brief break up of their date. But before she could hear what Matt had to say her step mom cuts into the conversation and orders Matt to leave.

Anna strongly believes that the step mom has set the house on fire to stay with her father.  That midnight the sisters plan to meet Matt at the rock. Rachel asks the sister if they want to accompany her with shopping for the party that evening.  Taking this as a chance to meet Matt Anna agrees to go with her. In the restaurant Rachel tries to explain how hard her life has been “Cleaning butts, however smelly they were”. The only thing that made her do the job was that she was convinced that “They will die very soon.” Anna is carried away from the conversation when the apparitions of the three kids appear, trying to tell her something, but is awaken to reality by Rachel.

She then meets Matt and asks him what he saw the other day. Then they plan to meet that midnight to know the story. The sisters sneak out of the house and wait but return home emptily when Matt does not show up.
That night Rachel sees Matt, through window completely drenched and his back broken. He says “That his mother warned him, but he did not listen”. He tries to hold her and at that minute Anna shouts and leaves the room, to find out that it is already morning.

Next the local sheriff show up, saying that Matt is dead, he could have fell down the rock , probably hit by a timber and broke his back. The Sheriff consoles Anna saying that it was not her fault and to go home and take rest. But Anna sobs and tells her sister that she is not crazy but she really saw Matt. When Alex tries to push away the thought she shows the finger prints in her hands, which shows that Matt was there and held her.

They again think that the Rachel has killed Matt, from keeping him away and revealing the truth. To collect evidence that Rachel is the culprit, first they try to find Rachel’s real identity. When they call the nursing agency to find out about a Rachel Summers… they don’t find anyone by that name.  Then they go to the Matt’s obituary services where Anna again sees the 3 children apparitions. Taken aback she follows them, which leads her to the “Wright children cemetery”.

When they are back home they Google for “Wright Children Murders”, and find out that a nanny was obsessed with the Wright children’s father and has eventually drugged them and continuously stabbed them to death. Also her name was Milfred kemp and that she was never caught by the police.  Also in a picture they see the pearl necklace that Rachael owns belongs to Mrs. Wright. and remembers Rachel saying that, “It was a gift from an old patient”.

The two sisters decide to steal the necklace as an evidence that she was not the real Rachel Summers and she is Mildred’s new identity.

Anna convinces herself, as she tries to convince the sheriff, that Rachel is Mildred, the murderer of the Wright children (the three kids that are haunting her). The sheriff obviously doesn’t believe. He calls up Rachel  for help. Ra

Anna IMAGINES that Mildred was never caught (though at the end we see she has been institutionalized all along), and that Rachel. Therefore, Anna’s account of Rachel’s identity, which he wouldn’t if he knew the real Mildred Kemp, was institutionalized. Rachel sedates her and takes her home. Anna wakes up and believes Alex killed Rachel in self defense. Then the father comes along, snaps Anna out of her delusion saying that “Alex has died along with her mother” and we see that Anna killed Rachel.

The story unveils:
In flashbacks you see what actually happened months earlier on the day the mother and Alex died in the fire…

Anna was angry after seeing her father having sex with the nurse Rachel so she went down to the boathouse to get some fuel to set fire to the big house. Alex stops her “what are you doing?” but Anna quotes, “it is not our house”.  Anna doesn’t turn the valve off completely causing the fuel to leak out (which Anna didn’t do that part on purpose) and Alex stumbles in and causes the lantern to fall, igniting the fuel and the boathouse.  Alex is called by her mother, as Anna walks half way she finds out that the boat house explodes. So the mother and Alex die in an explosion that was pure accident. Though it appears that Anna did want to burn something that night, it wasn’t supposed to be the boathouse; it was just a horrible accident.

So in order to cope, she IMAGINES her sister is still alive (watch again, no one else ever sees Alex) and she imagines the nurse planned the mother’s death (I guess because it is too stressful to admit her actions caused it). This is where the Mildred Kemp murder stories come in–Anna IMAGINES that Mildred was never caught (though at the end we see she has been institutionalized all along)

I believe the haunting from the mother’s corpse and the children were trying to make Anna aware of her part in everything and trying to bring her to reality. Rachel did change her identity, but as the father said, I guess it was to escape an abusive relationship. And when Anna’s caretaker asks her if she is fine back in the psychiatric centre Anna says that, “she finished what she started”.

I believe she meant that she finally killed the woman that she originally intended to harm the night of the fire, the woman she caught having the affair with her father–Rachel.

But the evening turned out to be a great time. Nothing much, the idiot box suddenly started casting some good stuff that I like.
I usually browse through the English movie channels as the movies are much shorter time span than the Tamil movies, and you also don’t have to put up with too much crap at the same time. It’s all simple concepts directed beautifully.
The first movie that caught my eye as I browsed through was “The Messengers”, any movie gets only 2-3 minutes maximum to impress me while browsing the channels. But once impressed I stay glued. The first time when I browsed it did not interest me much, but when I was cruising again, the movie has reached the almost climax, and immediately got me glued. I started watching from where the main character Jess finds about the family that disappeared, was not a co incidence but something terrible has happened to them. With the help of her boy friend they get to the nearest store, and find out that the family has been missing for 5 years where the mother and the two children get killed. The killer still survives and he is none other than the chief farmer whom his father has appointed to look after their sun flower farms.

The unusual circumstances that happen around the house are crows keep flying around. Blood stain on walls. The small boy Ben (who is mute caused by an accident) and his sister Jess sees spirits of the missing family.

At the end the killer claims that the newly moved in family is his family and they will never leave him. And to be with them he hunts them down. But at the end, he is pulled in to a sand pit by the dead family. Everything turns normal as the killer dies denoting that now the spirits are free.

The next movie that came up was “The Illusionist”, I wanted to watch this movie for a long time, because they have been telecasting the trailer over and over again, which impressed me a lot. “Forbidden Love”, “Illusionist”, so it falls in my genre of movies “Love”, “Horror”. I missed the first 20 minutes of the movie, but later got glued to the movie. I was really taken aback by the twist in the ending. Such an unexpected climax and I cherished it.

Following that was the movie “1408″, I was not at all impressed by the Title, because it did not suggest anything. Later when I saw the trailer it fell into one of my genre.

Now days I am really getting bored of this genre, because it is either a Psycho thriller claiming that it is based on a true story or everyone turning out to be zombies. But I intended to see the movie because I didn’t see any one killing others or zombie faces.

Finally it turned out to be the best movie of the day and a great horror movie that I hadn’t watched in recent times. Though there were little loose ends, it still made me stay glued to the movie.

It definitely turned out to be a blockbuster Sunday Night. But as I am now in my 7th month of pregnancy, I am on and off warned by my hubby not to watch horror movies at these times. He was very worried when I told him that I watched three horror movies at a stretch. But I really found it thrilling Come on my baby is going to be a brave person, maybe he now gets used to the genre of movies already what his mother watches. We both enjoyed the evening.

But how many ever times you watch such stories its a fairy tale and you will love it. That what fairy tales are meant to be. She is our bound to be happily ever after ending princess.

But the usual step mother comes in to picture, who is the inventor of the poisoned apples and wants to ruin the princess life, who might lose her throne if the prince marries the princess.

 And for the charming Prince to be casted we have two people. One whom she meets in the fairy tale at the beginning of the story “Edward”, who chases all the way to the real world for her rescue. and the other Price charming is a guy of this world, “Robert”

Yeah with all the main characters introduced, Narissa , the step mother of Prince Edward does not want him to meet any girl in his lifetime, for she will lose her throne if he gets married. Unfortunately Price Edward meets Giselle in the woods and they decide to get married next morning. Knowing this step mom tricks Giselle and pushes into a fountain which leads to another world – NY. There she meets Robert who is kind to her, though her innocense leads to a crack in his affair with Nancy. But she waits for Edward to come and rescue her. In the meantime Richard and Giselle unknowingly falls in love. Finally step mom jumps into the real world, when Edwards reunites with Giselle and about to marry her. She tricks Giselle again and poisons her with apples. The curse will remain if she does not receive her True love’s kiss before the clock strikes twelve. Edwards first runs to her rescue and kisses her, but nothing happens. Then everyone turns to Robert and asks him to kiss her, for he should be his true love. And right when the clock strikes twelve Robert kisses Giselle and she wakes up from the curse. Step mom getting angrier, turns herself to a huge dragon and snatches Robert and climbs on the tallest tower follwed by Giselle. Step mom falls eventually dropping Robert in to the hands of Giselle. Edward meets and Nancy and they get married after returning to Andalasia there fairy world.

Thats it!. They all lived happily ever after.

Unexpectedly good/gr8 movie. I dont have anything say about the hero or the star cast. But the story line was brilliantly put. If you cut down the unnessary comic scenes and 2 murders the movie rocks. The plot and the twist is extraordinary. Would like to mention it is a malayalam movie “Chinthamani kola Case” remake.
